Event details

The Centre for Internet of Things and Pervasive Systems is organising a seminar on "Challenges and Opportunities for IoT in the Minerals Sector" from Dr Richard Bearman. The event is open to anyone from across the University to attend. The talk will report on the challenges and opportunities in the minerals sector, and Richard is interested in connecting with researchers who may be interested in exploring the use of IoT in the sector. Example areas of interest include:
  • Investigating various options to enable new mining and processing systems;
  • Seeking data gathering techniques capable of offering insights into processes in difficult environments;
  • Macro sensors are already applied, where possible, to measure metal content, rates, moisture, size distribution of particles etc, but can the nano/micro world offer more options?
  • How can embedded sensors or distributed nano sensors gather and relay data from within mining systems, both in dry materials and slurries;
  • Can nano/micro sensors aid the tracking of material through processes?
  • What distributed communications can be used and what are the capabilities?
  • What are the security issues with micro communication networks?
